Location
Zwin Nature Park

Open from 28 June to 2 November 2025 inclusive, this exhibition takes you on a fascinating journey through a million years of prehistory. A time when – believe it or not – the North Sea was a land of plenty zigzagged by rivers and populated by Neanderthals and mammoths. This was Doggerland, a world now submerged under the waves.

This time-travelling journey from the ice ages to the emergence of modern humans also offers you a chance to see unique prehistoric artefacts, such as mammoth jaws and prehistoric tools, including arrowheads, projectile points, planes and formidable handaxes.

The most spectacular find in the North Sea must be the skull fragment of a Neanderthal who lived in Doggerland 50,000 years ago – the first and only such fossil discovered in the Netherlands! He was nicknamed ‘Krijn’. You will be able to admire a lifelike model at the Zwin Nature Park. You will also see how Neanderthals and ice age mammals such as woolly rhinoceros would have looked.
